Brian Sullivan enjoys performing close-up and platform styles of magic in his home state of Florida. Both performance types have their own uniqueness that they can bring to any event.
Close-Up Magic
Close-Up magic consists of small, intimate effects that can be performed in any venue and attire. It’s an “in your face” magic with the audience being up close and personal with the magician. Props are generally small enough to fit in a pocket or are borrowed from a spectator.
Items and effects commonly seen in close-up magic performances are:
- Rubber bands
- Coins
- Jewelry
- Cards
Platform Magic
Platform magic involves more elaborate effects and routines than close-up magic but doesn’t call for the space that a stage illusion would require. The focus is more on illusions and bigger reactions from an audience sitting or standing at a distance from the magician.
Tricks and effects commonly seen in platform routines include:
- Fire effects
- Disappearing / reappearing objects
- Elaborate card effects that require multiple props
- Levitating small objects, like a rubber ball or a rose
